Croxley Rail Link Gets Treasury Approval
Following a meeting between Richard Harrington MP and the Treasury, a deal has been secured to extend the Metropolitan Line to Watford Junction and build new stations at Vicarage Road and Ascot Road. The extension will improve access to Threadneedle’s Croxley Green Business Park, as well as to the hospital, football ground and wider West Watford.
This will greatly improve links to Central London via Watford Junction into Euston and via Baker St to Aldgate in the City of London.
Transport for London has now taken over the project, with support and further backing from the Treasury. Work is expected to commence within the next few months, with completion scheduled for 2018. It is expected that 16 trains will run every hour and Croxley Green Business Park will provide a free shuttle bus to and from the new station.
Richard Harrington comments, “I am absolutely delighted, this is really positive news for Watford. I’ve had extensive meetings with Boris Johnson, the DfT and the Treasury. This was the final hurdle, and I look forward to seeing the construction start soon.”
George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, added “The Croxley rail link will open up new economic opportunities that will have real benefits for people living in and around Watford.”
Croxley Green Business Park is home to over 55 companies and 2,200 employees, located in over 75 acres of landscaped grounds. Close to both junctions 18 and 19 of the M25, the Park is 40 minutes drive from London and 30 minutes from Luton and Heathrow airports. It is also only 2 miles from Watford town centre and a national train station. Croxley Green Business Park already provides a free bus service for all employees on the Park.
